Our Story

Three generations on Khuvsgul's shore

Unveil Mongolia is a family invitation into the places we know best: the lake, the steppe, the nomadic rhythms, and the quieter corners that rarely show up in travel catalogs.

We keep groups small, itineraries unhurried, and access genuine. Every departure is personally overseen, with the same guides, camps, and family connections that have shaped these routes for three generations.

FAQ

Common questions

Everything you need to know before booking your Mongolia journey.

Do I need riding experience?

The Khuvsgul Summer Retreat is designed for complete beginners — our guides lead gentle rides on calm horses with full instruction. Several expedition-style itineraries benefit from at least basic riding confidence, but we assess every guest and match the route and riding load accordingly before departure.

What is included in the tour price?

All accommodations, meals (as specified in each day's itinerary), in-country transport, professional guides, camp equipment, and scheduled activities are included. Not included: international flights, Mongolian visa fees if applicable, travel insurance, personal riding or hiking gear, and gratuities.

Is travel insurance required?

Yes — travel insurance with medical evacuation coverage is mandatory. Remote camps can be 4–8 hours from the nearest hospital, so we require a policy that explicitly covers emergency helicopter evacuation. Confirm coverage with your insurer before departure.

Do US citizens need a visa?

Visa policy can change, so we recommend checking the latest official guidance before booking flights. If you need help after reviewing the current rules, contact us and we will point you in the right direction.

What fitness level is required?

The Summer Retreat suits most fitness levels — days are relaxed and riding is optional. More remote or festival-driven journeys require stronger mobility, comfort on uneven terrain, and longer active days. We review fit route by route during consultation.

How many people are in each group?

All departures are private — we never combine strangers. Groups range from 2 to 12 travelers. Custom departures for families or larger private groups are available throughout the operating season. Solo travelers should inquire directly.

What is the cancellation policy?

Full refund for cancellations 90+ days before departure. 50% refund for 60–90 days. No refund for cancellations under 60 days. We strongly recommend trip cancellation insurance. Situations involving force majeure are handled individually — reach out and we will work with you.

Can I customize dates or the itinerary?

Yes. Private custom departures are available across the operating windows of our launch collection. We can adjust the pace, add or remove activities, and accommodate special interests such as photography, birdwatching, or cultural homestays. Email us to start the conversation.

How do I get to Mongolia?

Fly into Chinggis Khaan International Airport (ULN) in Ulaanbaatar. Common connections run through Seoul (ICN, ~3h), Beijing (PEK, ~2h), and Istanbul (IST, ~8h). We arrange all in-country transport from Ulaanbaatar onward — typically a domestic flight to Mörön followed by a vehicle transfer to Khuvsgul.

What should I pack?

Essential: a layering system (moisture-wicking base layer, fleece, waterproof outer shell), sturdy riding or hiking boots, high-SPF sun protection, personal medications, and a camera with extra batteries. Charging points are limited at camps. We send a full curated packing list after booking confirmation.
